Please check your child's SCHOOL PLANNER & the YELLOW FOLDER evey day for new homework, graded papers, letters, and information from the school or me. On nights that I have not assigned homework, you may choose any of the following activities to reinforce the content taught during our school week. 1. Practice writing child's complete legal name until it's more legible: John H. Smith, for example. Practice writing child's complete address, date of birth, & parents' names. 2. Drill on orally giving the above info, including the county. 3. When driving around or shopping, study all of the survival signs, brand names, directional signs, highway signs, restaurant names, & community signs that you encounter. Next time, orally quiz your child on the signs. 4. Provide step-by-step lessons when you're preparing simple dishes; when you're doing the laundry, vaccuming/sweeping, loading/unloading the dishwasher, mopping the floor, etc. 5. When shopping, teach your child how to find items, brand names from the grocery list, using the store signs; teach how to pick out the best produce; point out approximate costs of items, rounding up to the nearest dollar; show how to pick out the cheapest /best items; instruct him/her to watch the bagger; demonstrate how to put all the groceries away in their proper places when you get home. 6. Practice discriminating coins and bills. Practice counting out specified amounts of change; then, practice with bills; finally, practice with combinations of both bills and change. Practice making an amount of money several different ways. 7. Practice time skills with your child's daily routines at home. Reinforce times of your child's favorite activities. Practice calendar skills. (How many days 'til we see your Aunt? or How many days til the weekend?) 8.
